    Andrea Henning MS, PhD


    Andie earned her PhD in Biology in August 2018 under the direction of Dr. McFarlin. Her research focused on the role of acute nutritional habits on foam cell formation. She is currently a Post Doc at UT Southwestern Medical School

    Danielle earned her PhD in Biology in August 2018 under the direction of Dr. Vingren. Her research focused on the effects of acute alcohol consumption on muscle recovery. Specifically he focused on intramuscular satellite proliferation and signaling. She is currently an Post Doc at LSU Medical School

    Hui-Ying Luk, MS, PhD


    Ying earned her PhD in Biology in May 2018 under the direction of Dr. Vingren. Her research focused on the effects of acute alcohol consumption on muscle recovery. Specifically he focused on intramuscular satellite proliferation and signaling. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Texas Tech University

  • Adam Venable

    Adam Venable, MS, MS, PhD


    Adam earned an MS in Biology in 2014 and a PhD in Biology in 2015 under the direction of Dr. McFarlin. During his time in the program he developed several novel flow cytometry assays to study cardiovascular disease risk. As a student, Adam was involved in the completion of more than 14 published manuscripts and 29 conference presentations. Adam is currently working as a Flow Cytometry and Protein Biomarker Detection Specialist for MilliporeSigma.

  • Anthony Duplanty

    Anthony Duplanty, MS, PhD


    Anthony earned his PhD in Biology in August 2015 under the direction of Dr. Vingren. His research focused on the effects of acute alcohol consumption on muscle recovery. Specifically he focused on intramuscular mTOR signaling. After completing his degree at UNT, Anthony worked as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Texas Woman's University

  • Kathryn Pennel

    Kathryn Pennel, MS


    Kathryn Pennel was a graduate student under the direction of Dr. McFarlin. She earned a BS degree from University of Glascow (Glascow, Scotland, UK) in 2014. Her area of study for her undergraduate degree was immunology. Kathryn was also a scholarship athlete on the UNT Cross Country and Track Teams. Kathryn's MS thesis work focused on the relationship between muscle injury and monocyte apoptosis.

  • Eric Prado

    Eric Prado, MS


      Eric earned an MS in Biology in 2014 under the direction of Dr. McFarlin. During his time in the program at UNT, Eric play a role in the refinement of a technique to collect blood onto paper (Dried Blood Spot), extract, and analyzed using commercially available bead-based multiplex assays.

  • Ron Budnar

    Ron Budnar, MS, MS


    Ron was a graduate student working under the direction of Dr. Vingren. During his time in the APL, Ron earned two MS degrees. His MS in Kinesiology focused on the hormonal effects of kettlebell exercise, while his MS in Biology focused on gender differences in post exercise hormonal differences. Ron is a current pursuing a third MS degree in Computer Science from the University of North Texas.

    Travis Layman, MS


    Travis earned an MS in Kinesiology in 2014 under the direction of Dr. Vingren. He also completed his BS degree at UNT. His research focused on the design and implementation of Resistance Training interventions.

  • Alex Fernandez

    Alex Fernandez, MS


    Alex earned an MS in Kinesiology in 2014 under the direction of Dr. Vingren. He also completed his BS degree at UNT. His research focused on the Biology of Resistance Training and the Hormonal Response to Resistance Exercise. Alex is currently working as an Adjunt Faculty Member at UNT and other local Universities.

  • Randall Williams

    Randall Williams, MS


    Randall Williams earned an MS in Kinesiology in 2014 under the direction of Dr. McFarlin. Randall is currently studying to complete a a Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. During his time at UNT, Randall assisted in the development of a novel assay that used image-based flow cytometry to measure two aspects of granulocyte function at the same time.

  • John Curtis

    John Curtis, MS


    John Curtis earned his BS in Kinesiology in 1998 and then returned to the UNT campus in 2010 to complete an MS in Kinesiology under the direction of Dr. Vingren. Between his stints as a student, John worked in management of various athletic focused retail establishments and business. In 2014, John rejoined the APL as the laboratory manager and safety director.
